Dopey Was Copied

Norway’s World War II history remains unusually present, especially in the north where occupation and resistance shaped daily life. A visit to the Lofoten Krigsminnemuseum in Svolvær raised a different kind of historical question when four Disney style watercolors attributed to Adolf Hitler were displayed, including a drawing of Dopey from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The claim suggested that during the rise of the Third Reich, Hitler privately drew Disney characters. AI Image Analysis tells a different story: I performed a feature matching between the watercolor and an authenticated Disney Dopey production model sheet, identifying more than 400 tightly clustered structural correspondences across facial geometry, ear curvature, eye placement, hat brim angle, hand gesture vectors, and tunic proportions. The density and precision of these matches indicate direct reference of using a Disney model sheet. Crucially - the model sheets involved were internal Disney studio tools created after the film’s release and were not publicly available during the early war years - placing the reference material outside the period when Hitler could plausibly have accessed it.
