“It’s like selling nuclear weapons to North Korea.” Anthropic chief executive Dario Amodei used the stark analogy in Davos to challenge U.S. approval of advanced AI chip sales to China, recasting computation as strategic power rather than neutral trade. The warning pierced the usual language of markets and innovation, arguing that these chips scale what he called “essentially intelligence," what Amodei described as a country of geniuses housed in data centers.
