Lost Scrolls, Failing Servers

AI runs on vast server farms, some buried in mountains or cooled by Arctic air. In Gothenburg, Sweden, Bunkeberget shows how such vaults evolve. Blasted into rock in 1939 as a civilian shelter, expanded during the Cold War into a 5,000-square-meter factory hall, it later became a skate park and cultural venue. In 2025, Bahnhof acquired it to transform the cavern into a hardened server hall. These fortresses sustain the cloud that seems weightless but is anchored in steel and stone. But fragility remains: algorithms magnify errors, access can vanish, and collapse may come without warning. History reminds us what happens when knowledge is left unguarded: the Library of Alexandria fell to fire and earthquakes, erasing centuries of recorded memory.
