The Socratic Bot
A new chatbot enters the public square and refuses to answer. Shae Omonijo’s Critical Thinking Bot responds only with questions, pressing users to define terms, test assumptions, and supply evidence. In earlier notes on AI leadership and institutional judgment, I argued that technology should sharpen human reasoning rather than replace it. Here the machine revives an older discipline. Classical education trained citizens to argue before they concluded, and the Socratic method demanded patience and structure. In an age of instant replies, restraint may prove the more radical innovation.
