Two AI Economies, Two Outcomes

Capital flows reveal the structure of AI competition. In 2024 US AI startups raised about $109 billion while Chinese startups raised roughly $9 billion, a 12 to 1 gap. Software spending per worker tells the deeper story, about $2,284 in the US versus about $84 in China. Abundance funds frontier models and subscription pricing at $10 or $20 per month. Constraint pushes efficiency, zero price consumer access, and rapid industrial deployment. About 67 percent of Chinese manufacturers report AI in production versus 34 percent in the US. Capability defines one race, deployment defines the other. Evidence confirms that when it comes to AI strategy, institutions optimize for their economic reality.
